Woven Thread 2.0 Pop Up Showing
WOVEN THREAD 2.0 is an artistic celebration organized by the Anacostia Business Improvement District, area artists, and exhibit curator, Luis Del Valle. This exhibition honors the rich tapestry of American culture, through a showing of paintings, drawings, and photographs created by artists who represent the cultural diversity of our nation. With bold colors, heavy textures, loose movement, and complex subject matter refine the types of symbolism in a way that provides literal interpretations to the viewer. The allegories, metaphors, similes, archetype and even the myths embedded in each piece shows the common story and woven ethnicities that bonds multi cultures, and creates the fabric of America.

Woven Thread 2.0 is a hopeful reflection and unique celebration of the universal language of art. This exhibition is an extension of the Woven Thread exhibition, that is currently on display at the Anacostia Arts Center.

Del Valle as a public artist, focuses on building, maintaining and supporting communities through the arts. He believes that artistic development is a critical element in community development. The arts facilitate improvement in quality of life by providing tools to modify behaviors. Art directs identity consciousness through self-awareness and expression, grounded in reflection and representation, and community consciousness through conversation and friendly debate, grounded in understanding and change. It is this philosophy that is, “Love, Hope, and Art”.

Neon Art Demonstrations with renowned artist Craig Kraft
RSVP Required!1239 Good Hope Road, SE
Don’t miss the opportunity to witness Craig Kraft create Neon Art at Kraft Studio in the heart of Historic Anacostia.

Over the past 35 years Craig Kraft has gained national recognition in creating original works of art that advance the techniques he has developed while working with drawn neon lines and sculptural light volumes surrounding the figure, holographic style lit negative body casts sited on buildings around the world, to monumental outdoor rolled aluminum and neon sculptures.

Light sculptures have both a sense of newness and energy and they are about the future as much as the present. There is also an element of marking, which the crossing of colored lines against one another generates. The effect of the sculpture is to mark importance, not just of location but also significance. The sculptural mark of light resonates in the collective memory
